Loud Silence
On a cotton fabric, I laser cut a Persian poem in Farsi that forms the background of a dress shape inspired by the Brocaded Taffeta Robe, which was worn in Iran in the 17th and 18th centuries. The willow tree spikes are coming out from the middle on top of the dress to create a feeling of growth. Loud Silence is about voiceless women and it is mainly regarding issues surrounding women. It brings to attention the voice that has been taken away from women because of the suppressive societies they live in, societies in which men have the power in hand. My goal is to emphasize the huge amount of effort that a woman needs to show her tendency toward growth, improvement, and creation. It is important to know that a woman could show courage and blossom, even through hard rocks.
